University Police Website
Creating a site with safety in mind.
OVERVIEW
The University of Illinois Police Department website redesign was not just an opportunity to streamline outdated content—but to help achieve the department's goal to build relationships for a safer campus community.
CONTENT STRATEGY
As the source for safety information for 40,000+ students, staff, and the public, the new website needed to provide quick access to resources and contact information. We also wanted to empower the campus community to take personal safety precautions, and to ensure parents receive clear communication about their students' home away from home.
I wrote friendly, straightforward copy and guided photography choices throughout the site to position the department as a partner in keeping campus safe.
USER EXPERIENCE
Throughout the site, key user-tested actions presented at key times encourage crime reporting, empower personal responsibility, and emphasize services available for greater campus safety.
My revamped site architecture and functional mega menus create an easy-to-navigate user experience.
On mobile, the site prioritizes actions that students and staff need on the go.
